In Buddhism, it is tradition to have a protective Buddha following his zodiac sign and his year of birth
The story goes that Buddha invited the animals of his kingdom to come and see him. There were twelve of them in this order: the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the goat, the monkey, the rooster, the dog and the pig.
Buddha to thank them, dedicated them to each one year. Children born under the sign of a particular animal would inherit its characteristics as well as a protective Buddha following them throughout their existence.
