Vajra in Sanskrit, dorje (diamond) turning Tibetan.
Vajra
The word means a Buddhist ritual tool.
According to the dictionary of Buddhist terms, it symbolizes "an indomitable determination to attain enlightenment that can destroy all illusions."
A vajra can have nine, five or three rays. The rays of a peaceful vajra meet at their end while those of a curved vajra are slightly flapped at the end.
The ends composed of five-pointed rays symbolize the five wisdoms. The opposing branches join together in a central grain (bindu) that represents both the germ of the spirit and the heart of the universe.
The vajra bears a masculine symbolism. It is associated in the ritual to the Bell, of feminine symbolism.
"The double vajra symbolizes the perfect awakening of the Buddha nature through knowledge (vertical) and (horizontal) love embracing all beings and creatures."
