Amitābha Amitāyus or Amida1 is a Buddha of mahayana and vajrayana Buddhism. He rules 'Pure bliss Western Earth' (sk.: Sukhāvatī c.: Xīfāng jile John ja.: saihō goraku sekai 西方極樂世界), world of evil, wonderful, pure, perfect suffering. This pure land, place of refuge outside the transmigrations cycle - or the equivalent of nirvāna according to some designs - is the center of the beliefs and practices of the pure land school. This Buddha, also known as Buddha of Buddhas, is very popular at the mahāyānistes, particularly in China, in Korea, the Japan, Tibet and Vietnam.
