There isn't really an exact literal translation for Om, but roughly speaking, it expresses: "All that has been, all that is, and all that is yet to come." Om therefore represents both the past, the present and the future, which represents a lot of content for such a short syllable! As we have already mentioned, Om is considered a primary sound, so to speak, the sound that precedes all the others. In Hinduism, Om is the sound of creation.
WHEN AND WHY DO WE SAY OM?
You probably know Om as an ornamental element in the form of a Sanskrit spelling, or even a yoga lesson. Before and after yoga, we often say Om to inaugurate or conclude the practice.
You probably know Om as an ornamental element in Sanskrit spelling form.
If you say an Om to yourself slowly, you will immediately notice the vibrations arising in the body. In yoga, this vibration is believed to awaken awareness for the practice of meditation and create harmony for the body, mind, and soul.
Om, therefore, is less a song than a chant.
Om, therefore, is not so much a word as a syllable used as a mantra to help become aware of one's own mind and arrive in the moment.
