PROTECTION OF THE DRAGON
A fantastic animal from Chinese mythology, the dragon is at the top of mythical creatures revered throughout Asia, particularly in China. Once a symbol of the Heavenly Emperor, the dragon is steeped in Chinese traditions, philosophy and culture. In the past, the people prayed to the mythical dragon, master of the rain, for good harvests. Today, the dragon remains the embodiment of power, strength, courage but it also takes on the symbolism of the protector, the lucky charm that attracts luck and prosperity. The dragon is so adored by Asian civilizations that it is present in every home in all forms, whether in statuettes, paintings or even jewelry. Since then, the dragon has become a highly prized Feng Shui symbol, carrying positive yang energy in the house.

A creature with an extraordinary birth
If the origins of the dragon are uncertain, Chinese mythical traditions, stemming from primitive cultures, explain that this fantastic creature was born from the mutation of several animals such as the saltwater crocodile, the snake and the fish. The philosopher Wang Fu (78-163) emphasizes the power of the dragon by its characteristic traits coming from 9 animals. The dragon has a camel's head, demon eyes, bovid ears, deer antlers and a snake's neck. Its tiger paws are equipped with eagle talons. Its body is covered with carp scales. That said, there is not only one kind of dragon but diversity: some wear hair and not spreads, others have horns or lack them, others wear wings.

According to Chinese legend, each dragon is unique at birth. Traditions say that it takes a dragon 3000 years of mutation to transform into a dragon. A dragon egg would take 1000 years to hatch and give birth to a creature in the shape of an aquatic snake. As it transforms, the dragon retains its anguiform form, soon covered with scales. The dragon also wears whiskers and a beard. Its limbs develop to give birth to 4 legs terminated by talons and a tail. The dragon reaches adulthood at 2000 years old, it is then called ying-long.

Strong contemporary representation
The history of China presents the dragon as an emblematic animal, endowed with a strong meaning for men of power. Recall that the dragon was the exclusive symbol of the emperor of China, the only one who could bear his image. Legend has it that the yellow emperor Huan Di wore a snake on his coat of arms. With each new conquest, he added the emblem of his enemy to his own. The yellow emperor was then immortalized as a dragon identical to the one he carried. This would explain the slender shape of the Chinese dragon. From then on, the dragon became the embodiment of supreme power. A powerful characteristic inherited in Chinese culture since the image of the dragon is taken up by men of power, such as gang leaders from the Chinese mafia in particular. The latter wear dragon tattoos to inspire respect and power.
