Buddha's eyes are a symbol of knowledge, omnipotence and celestial presence, far from the concept of the gaze of judgment. The magic that emerges from this look is that it does not express any feeling, joy or sadness. Through this perception, nothing can be concealed from Buddha. Moreover, this omnipresence indicates the involvement of the holder of supreme wisdom in the daily life of each one.
On virtually all Buddha statues, Buddha heads and Buddha stupa (Buddhist shrines) from countries like India, Nepal, Thailand, Burma, China and others, there are pairs of eyes that throw themselves as if in a state of meditation, and enrich themselves with a spiritual aura. This style has been a model for various generations of artists while depicting them in various Buddha heads and Buddha images. In Buddhism, there are two kinds of eyes, first the inner eyes or eyes of wisdom, which see the world of Dhamma, which is also known as the third eye of the Buddha, while the other is called the outer eyes which is also called as material eyes that see the outside world.
Therefore, it can be seen and understood easily that the eyes in Buddha statues and Buddha heads are also of two kinds. The material eyes are the two eyes that see the outer world while the inner eyes, or the one who sees the Dhamma is the one in the middle of the two material eyes. This inner eye is also known as the urna.
The nose is symbolically represented by the number 1, while on the forehead is represented the 3rd eye of Wisdom.
In the stupas there are pairs of giant eyes looking from all four sides of the main tower of the stupa. These are also known as Buddha eyes and wisdom eyes. The Buddha's eyes in the stupa symbolize the Buddha's ability to see everything.
Thus, according to Buddhism, we can say that if we are wise, we can see beyond material things. What we see then is the truth. The world is in confusion now because people don't use their eye of Wisdom to see things. People are distracted and deceived by greed, hatred and ignorance. These desires mix them, or bring them down and then lead us to suffering. People become anxious, depressed, anxious and suffering. These things can be called the darkness of life. Only wisdom will lead the world out of darkness.
